Richmond, VA - June 10, 2025 - The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals has scheduled oral arguments in Credle v. Virginia Community College System for September 26, 2025, at the University of Richmond School of Law. This case represents another significant achievement for our appellate practice, as the Fourth Circuit grants oral argument in only approximately 8-11% of the cases it considers each year.
The selection for oral argument demonstrates the court's recognition that this case presents important legal issues worthy of direct judicial consideration. The Fourth Circuit's decision to schedule a special session at the University of Richmond School of Law further underscores the significance of the legal questions presented in this employment law matter.
Joann Credle's case involves important questions related to employment rights and workplace protections under federal law. The appeal challenges a district court decision and raises issues that could have meaningful implications for employee rights and employer obligations in the Commonwealth of Virginia and across the Fourth Circuit.
The case will be argued against the Virginia Community College System, with the state represented by the Virginia Attorney General's Office. Attorney Jordan Howlette will present oral arguments on behalf of Ms. Credle, continuing our firm's strong track record of advocating for employee rights and civil justice in federal appellate courts.
The opportunity to argue before the Fourth Circuit reflects the court's assessment that this case presents complex legal questions that benefit from oral advocacy. The arguments will take place during the court's special session at the University of Richmond School of Law, providing an educational opportunity for law students and the legal community to observe federal appellate proceedings in action.
